A Quick Manila Art Run
2:02 AM
My undying love for the arts has led me to this very day.
Fra Luca Pacioli's definition of accounting as an "art" has probably beguiled me into becoming an accountant. Studying accounting was not the kind of art I signed up for. However, I am still quite grateful for the foundation he has built that has become my career. Without learning the art of accounting, I wouldn't probably get to enjoy the kind of art that could touch my soul.
Art galleries/museums in Cebu are quite scarce, so every opportunity I get to fly to Manila, I always try my best to visit them.
Opens every Tuesdays to Saturdays from 9AM to 5:30PM
I found out about this quaint gallery one random day on Facebook when they had the "Canned Thoughts" exhibition by Carlo Tanseco. I would have wanted to see that exhibit but the gallery changes exhibition every 4 weeks. Nonetheless, I still was excited to go since the exhibits during my visit were still as brilliant and amazing.
Among the four current exhibits during my visit, I would say Errick Villarruz's "Out of Sight, Out of Mind" struck me the most, as it deals with a theme on mental health. The striking visualization of overthinking - albeit this adjective might be a little underwhelming, but for a lack of a better adjective - is undoubtedly amazing. I claim no expertise in these area, as I haven't had the opportunity to study arts academically, but I would say I am an enthusiast, and this is the type of art that I do enjoy seeing - one that gets me into deeper thoughts of my being.

Opens every Tuesday to Sunday from 9AM to 6PM
Visiting the museum for the second time never felt like I was back to a familiar place. Sure, Juan Luna's Spoliarium still sits right in the very center of the museum, but it always seem like a different experience every time.
I told my best friend how seeing the Spoliarium is an experience itself, and no amount of photographs there is out there that can actually make you appreciate it more than actually seeing the entire 14-foot tall painting in person. Seeing it for myself in this lifetime is one of the many gifts that life has to offer.
Of course, the museum offers a lot more history, arts and culture, that would continue to amaze you up to this very day. There's an unfinished painting of Fernando Amorsolo (second to the last photo), which is very much preserved to the state where the painter left it off. This painting, for some reason, reminded me of a one of the books that was mentioned in John Green's The Fault In Our Stars. I so distinctly remember how Hazel Grace Lancaster was so frustrated about how her favorite book ended because the main character died. The author, which they confronted, said that that's how life is. We just end our worldly life, and we never really even know what happens to our family and friends once that happens. Anyway, I feel like you would understand me more if you've watched the movie.
